BISHOP ROBERT W. McKEWIN REMEMBERED
The Most Reverend Robert W. McKewin died on October 31, 2013. May he shine in glory.
Robert McKewin was a bishop of the Independent Catholic Movement, having Mariavite Episcopal Succession. Prior to his consecration to the episcopacy, he had been, for some thirty years, a priest of the Episcopal Church in the United States of America. In addition to his own dedicated ecclesiastical duties, Robert was for many years a bishop of the Autocephalous Catholic Church of Antioch.
Robert McKewin's experience and ministry had been both far-reaching and eventful. In addition to his normal parochial duties, during the time he was Rector of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in South St. Paul, he administered a care home in Minnesota; and during the course of his ministry he and his wife Patricia, also a bishop within the Independent Catholic Movement, fostered more than one hundred and fifty children. Both Bishop Robert and Bishop Patricia also worked for a time in the Holy Land, where they served as teachers to Christian Arab children. Robert conducted a prison ministry late into his life, providing God’s Word and the transforming grace of the Eucharistic Sacrament to many and converting hearts through God's love.
Bishop Robert wrote of himself:
‘It was more than twenty centuries from the time of Jesus' ministry in Galilee and Judea when I studied for Holy Orders. The Gospels told of Him, of His teaching, and of His ministry. They told of people who encountered Him. I wanted to know in depth how His life, teaching, work, Passion, and Resurrection affected those who came close to Him. I studied in St. George's College, Jerusalem and had access to their library as well as to the libraries of the Greek Orthodox monastery and the Armenian Community's library situated by St. James' Cathedral. In addition I sought and received much treasured information regarding oral tradition. It helped me to know the land, its people of two thousand years ago, and it deepened my inner conviction.'
